We’re working diligently to add a tree canopy to Scott’s Addition to provide shade in what was once a highly industrial, concrete filled neighborhood. SABA has been awarded two grants to plant trees in our neighborhood. Since 2015, we’ve planted more nearly 100 trees from the following grants:
- $3,000 Tree Stewards Grant (10 Trees)
- $20,000 Alliance for Chesapeake Bay Grant (75 trees)
More Work To Be Done
Within the Scott’s Addition Historic District, the City has identified 540 existing planting sites that are in need of trees. These grants will enable us to occupy 16% of the existing planting areas over time.
As part of the grant requirements, SABA has committed to contributing $7,000 of our own funds maintain the trees over the next several years. Additionally, we will provide educational segments to enhance the community’s knowledge on caring for our trees.
Our initial efforts focused on plantings along Roseneath Road, along with Norfolk and Summit Avenues. Community participation has been instrumental in the success of this project.
